60 seconds
A friend sent this through to me, commenting on the school system:
'I picked this up of the floor at school a number of weeks ago.'
'I picked this up of the floor at school a number of weeks ago.'
"Think of the planet earth as a 46 year old.....
The earth is thought to be around 4,600 million years old, an almost inconceivable time-span. For the moment, think of it as someone in middle age, 46 years old.
This person is a late developer. Nothing at all is known about their first seven years, and only sketch information exist about the next 35 years. It is only at the age of 42 that the earth began to flower.
Dinosaurs and all the great reptiles did not appear until a year ago, when this planet reached 45. Mammals arrived only eight months ago. In the middle of last week, human-like apes evolved into ape-like humans, and at the weekend the last Ice age enveloped the earth.
Modern humans have been around for four hours. During the last hour we discovered agriculture. The industrial revolution began just a minute ago. During those sixty seconds of biological time, humans have made a rubbish tip of paradise."
'My first reaction was, wow a great novel! But when you look at it, it is subtly putting across a number of things.
1, firstly its all rubbish
2, the thing that got me the most was the last two sentences "The industrial revolution began just a minute ago. During those sixty seconds of biological time, humans have made a rubbish tip of paradise." - So what it is subtly putting across here is that us humans using our God given brains has turned our planet into a rubbish dump.
It is pretty disgusting that they teach students in school that using your brains causes trouble rather than teaching that using your brains is what they were actually created for.'

Sad, really sad. :(
I totally agree with your friend!
Strange, that. ;)
Hi Lyd, this little message is based on a disproven theory, and yes you're right, it is very wrong of schools to hand these lies out to little, gullible students who are entrusted to their care.
It is aye. I was just reading about John Dewey this morning, the philosopher from the US and he was the guy behind the government educating the masses for the betterment of society...
It's George Orwell's 1983, or Aldous Huxeley's Brave New World scenario all over again.
Just reading the Keystone magazine and finding your blog. Only one comment: don't think all schools are like this, there is at least 1 christian school I know of which is really, really good.
Hi Ida,
yes, I agree with you on that. The pamphlet would only be given out in state/secular private schools, I don't think many Christian schools would hand out that material! I hope not anyway.
I wouldn't rule out all Christian schools either, because there is a place for them. I mean, in an idealistic world everyone would homeschool their kids, but obviously that's not possible for everyone.
